Thalassaemia Screening at the SHE Laboratory

Registration

Requirements: National ID card

Charge for screening: MRF 500/-

Charge for DNA analysis: MRF 1000/-

Express service of Thalassaemia screening is provided where the results are given on the same day  of sample collection, with a charge of MRF 700.

Days: Sunday – Thursday

Time: 8:30am – 10.00pm

 

Issuing results

Requirements: National ID card, result slip

Screening results are issued within 2 working days of sample collection

DNA results are issued within 10 working days of sample collection

Days: Sunday – Thursday

Time: 12:30pm – 1:30pm

 

Note: in case the result slip is lost, the client can collect the result personally after presenting the ID card. If someone else is coming to collect the result, a letter from the client should be brought and the person collecting must present the client’s ID card.

 

Genetic Counseling on thalassaemia

One To One Counseling

This service is given to any diagnosed carried collecting the result personally.

Days: Sunday – Thursday

Time: 8:30am – 1:30pm

Note: counseling and information on thalassaemia are also given to walk-in clients.

 

Re-issuing of card

Re issuing of damaged or lost cards are provided on request of clients who have been tested after 1997.

Requirements: National ID card

Fee: MRF 100/-

The client should be present to receive the card

The card will be issued within 10-15 minutes

 

Blood Grouping and RH Typing

If desired, clients have the opportunity to check only their blood groups without doing the full thalassaemia screening procedure.

Fee: MRF 50/-

The results are issued within 10-15 minutes of testing

 

Support Services

PND Appointments

– Appointments for PND at CMC Vellore are arranged when requested for couples at risk of having a child with Thalassaemia Major.

– Couples should present their Thalassaemia card and a scan report (not more than 2 weeks old) which shows the presence of a viable fetus.

– PND is performed at the gestational age of 9-12 weeks and the clients are advised on a departure date and given information about the costs, the procedure and the duration of stay.

– Thalassaemia screening reports (of both expecting parents) along with a copy of the appointment confirmation email is provided to the clients before departure.

 

Support Services for Thalassaemics

– Assistance in finding blood donors

– Provision of Leukocyte Filters

– Provision of Infusion Pumps

– Arranging transportation in collaboration with Maldivian Air Taxi and Trans Maldivian Airways

– Appointments for HLA typing/BMT at CMC, Vellore.
